The primary strategy involved in this extension was to merge the existing home with the new proposal through a link that surrounds a central courtyard.

The central courtyard space acts as the new threshold into the home, providing an entry outdoor room that serves as the heart of the home. The multi-purpose outdoor room functions as a protected kids play area as well as improving access to daylight and natural ventilation throughout the new extension. The link, overlooking the courtyard, gradually transitions from existing house to new addition in a sensitive manner. The living area extension to the rear reinvigorates the connection to the outdoors, opening up to surrounding greenery and creating the feeling of occupying a covered outdoor space.
